NAND Flash has been a hugely disruptive force in electronics over the past decade. From an almost non-existent market in the late 1990s, this year it will be more than $14B in sales. NAND Flash has grown to that level against annual price declines of more than 50%/year. It has grown faster than DRAMs did at any point of their lifetime, and prices have come down faster. With its low cost, NAND Flash is used in all types of consumer products for data storage and file transfer, image and audio storage, mobile phones, and is poised to challenge Magnetic HDDs in computers soon.
This webcast provides a discussion of the extent of these losses, DRAM product status and secondary DRAM market trends, vendor's DRAM technology status and outlook, possible remedial actions to mitigate the huge losses and get their businesses back on a profitable track.
Mr. Mason covers many of the basic NAND market issues, but also brings to the forefront many of the industry's many open issues, such as: (1) effective manufacturer business models, (2) restoring profitability in the industry, (3) where applications might emerge in coming years (4) Sources of NAND makers' cost reduction...in the past several years, and in the future.
